The band are pleased to welcome our new Principal Cornet player - Nick Lear.
Nick started playing the cornet at the age of 6 on the advice of his doctor to help manage asthma - something that clearly worked as within a few years the inhalers were no longer needed.
He started to play with the Torbay Youth band then quickly moved on to the senior band. He moved on to the Totnes Band before moving to university to study Mechanical Engineering where banding was still a regular past time playing with the City of Birmingham band. Following graduation, Nick moved to Swindon as a graduate with Rover Group cars and played 3rd man with Aldbourne band. This was a short stay as work moved him back to the midlands and Nick rejoined the City of Birmingham band. This was where Nick met his wife Sam.
In 2004 they moved to Coalville and joined the Leicestershire Coop band with Nick sitting on the end chair. Nick remained as principal cornet for 12 years leading the bands rise from the 3rd section to the Championship section picking up a number of soloist prizes along the way. Nick was also a regular featured soloist with his preference for trumpet solos such as Tico Tico, Mission 459 and Flourish.
Nick has more recently had short spells with Derwent and Foresters before deciding to join the Kibworth Band where he is looking forward to enjoying his playing.
Away from band Nick is a Delivery Manager at an IT company and a keen supporter of Manchester United - although he would like to get to more games.
