Kibworth Centenary Brass Band

To coincide with The Kibworth Band celebrating 100 years of music making, and looking forward to the future, Ted Smith, Band Manager at the time, set about raising funds to form a new youth group to maintain the existence of the Kibworth Band. The previous youth group, "The Kiblets", formed just over three years ago, suffered through lack of finance to provide modern learner instruments, although the tutor, Nathan Waterman gained much success with his pupils.

In all, 25 appeal letters were sent to Charitable Trusts interested in youth and the Arts. The first grant came from the Local Network Fund for Children and Young People in Leicestershire and Rutland, delivered by Leicester Charity Link, followed by the Leicestershire and Rutland community champions, delivered by Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland Community Foundation. Large grants also come from the Foyle Foundation, Awards for All and Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales.

The group rehearse on a Monday evening 6.30-7.15pm in our purpose built band room on Halford Road in Kibworth. At the moment there are just under 20 children in the group, although it is constantly growing! The group is expertly led by the band's solo trombone player, Sam Haigh, and other members of the band regularly attend the rehearsals to provide additional guidance.

Children of all ages are welcome to join the group once they are Grade 1 standard or higher. If you are not yet at this standard we are able to provide lessons to help you achieve this. If you are interested in having a go please contact Sam Haigh or use the form below.
