With around 36 hours to go until the Midlands Area Kibworth Band have been working hard to get Legacy ready for the big day. The piece is a new composition from the hand of Tom Davoren in celebration of Aneurin Bevan and the creation of the National Health Service on the 5th of July 1948. It is a lyrical piece, but not without it’s difficulties, and the band has been working hard to ensure these passages are under the fingers, in their minds and performed consistently. But rest assured we will still be working hard right through to the performance itself.
16 bands will be competing on Saturday for a chance to go to the finals in September, which means there are 2 spots up for grabs. We will be competing against familiar names such as Oddfellows, Jackfield, Bedworth and Staffordshire, to name but a few, as well as being joined by Hathern and Spal Sovereign from the championship section and Foss Dyke and Rolls Royce (Derby) from the second section making for a good contest and not one to be taken lightly.
With mid table placings in the last 2 years the band will be looking to at least match this performance for consistency, but preferably improve on these placings to give the band a strong upper tier ranking moving into 2021. This will put the band in a good position to move from strength to strength over the coming years.
In the words of our conductor Brendan Caddy ‘It’s been an absolute pleasure working on Legacy. The piece allows us to showcase our soloists and the musicality of the band. We have gone from strength to strength an I’m looking forward to our performance on Saturday!’ Here’s to Saturday to see how the bands efforts will pay off….!
