Since January the band have been working hard on preparations for the Midlands Regional Contest (the areas) playing the piece “A Day in the Life of a Knight” by Phil Lawrence. The contest was on Saturday 25th February at the Corby Cube and we are delighted to confirm we achieved a result of 4th place out of 15 playing bands, in one of the toughest sections the contest has seen in a long time.
Whilst it is fair to say the piece wasn’t our favorite we were keen to prove that last years result was the “blip” and with a 3rd place in 2020 and 4th this year we can certainly hold our heads high in the region.
We were pleased with our performance which showed great dynamic contrast and an energetic and vibrant ending. Our soloists, Ciaran (cornet), Carol Smith (Horn) and Rob Mason (Euphonium) all played with more than a touch of aplomb – bravo! The contest was a noticeable debut for our young cornet player Ciaran who sat in the principals chair for the first time – before he’s even taken his GCSE’s! Not that you’d have known it was his first time as there was not a hint of nerves and some very fine playing on show.
“I am very happy with the result we achieved at the area, and the performance was very much one the band can be proud of. I’m very much looking forward to the future with Kibworth as we look to build and progress from our recent successes.”
Our congratulations must go to SPAL Sovereign for their win and promotion back to Championship Section alongside Bilton Silver Band.
