As the band continues to evolve, we share news of both farewell and welcome — and an exciting opportunity for the right musician to join our ranks.
🌟 Farewell to Ciaran – Principal Cornet
We’re incredibly proud to announce that our principal cornet, Ciaran, is heading off to Swansea University to begin his studies in Aerospace Engineering. Ciaran’s musical journey began in 2014 under the guidance of our principal trombone, Sam Haigh, and with the support of a band-loaned instrument. From those early days, he progressed through our Training Band, Youth Band, and joined the Senior Band on 3rd Cornet in 2018 — steadily rising through the ranks to the end chair.
Ciaran’s talent and dedication have also earned him places in the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain, the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, and the Ambassadors Band of Great Britain — a testament to his musical excellence and commitment.
Ciaran’s last official engagement with the band will be at our proms concert on Saturday 13th September. More details at www.kibworthband.co.uk/proms.
We wish Ciaran every success in this exciting new chapter. We’ll miss his playing and presence, but we’re sure this isn’t goodbye — just a “see you soon” at future concerts when he’s back home.
🎉 Welcome to Chris Sheldon – Principal Euphonium
We’re delighted to officially welcome Chris Sheldon to the band as our new Principal Euphonium. Chris brings a rich musical background, rooted in the Salvation Army tradition, and more recently served as principal euphonium with Rushden Town Band and London City Brass.
Having recently relocated to Leicestershire, Chris has already joined us for several concerts and will soon take up his role officially. We’re thrilled to have him on board and look forward to the musical depth and warmth he brings to the section.
On a personal note, Chris has also just celebrated the arrival of his first child — congratulations from all of us!
🎯 Could You Be Our Next Principal Cornet?
With Ciaran’s departure, we are now on the lookout for a new and enthusiastic Principal Cornet player to step into his shoes. If you’re a confident, committed musician looking to join a friendly and ambitious band, we’d love to hear from you. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a strong cornet section and be part of a band that values musical excellence and community spirit.
🎶 Thank you to our supporters for being part of our journey. These transitions remind us of the strength and continuity of our banding community — rooted in tradition, always growing, and full of heart.
