In a dazzling display of resilience, the Kibworth Band triumphed at the Midlands Regional Championships in Corby, securing a well-deserved 3rd place and earning a spot in the National Finals in Cheltenham this coming September. The band showcased their musical prowess in a performance of Eric Ball’s “High Peak,” overcoming unexpected challenges with grace and determination. The result leaves the band in a fantastic position on the banding league table; in a perfect position for a push to Championship section next year.
The journey leading up to the Championships wasn’t without its hurdles. Despite meticulous preparations, fate threw a curveball as the principal cornet player, Ciaran, found himself hospitalised in the critical days before the competition. It was a moment that could have rattled the ensemble, but the spirit of the Kibworth Band prevailed.
In a commendable act of teamwork, Kaye, the bumper-up, stepped into the breach, taking on the role of principal cornet with admirable poise. Ciaran, showing immense dedication and love for the music, gracefully assumed the 4th Front Row position. The result was not just a testament to their musical skill but also to the camaraderie and adaptability within the band. Credit must also go to the rest of our front row team for their adaptability and resilience in difficult circumstances.
Kaye’s contribution deserves special recognition, not only for seamlessly handling the principal cornet duties but also for delivering outstanding solos that captivated the audience and judges alike. Her commitment to the band’s success, especially under unexpected circumstances, exemplifies the true spirit of a dedicated musician.
The Midlands Regional Committee deserves a round of applause for their impeccable organisation and execution of the contest. Their time and efforts in planning and coordinating the event ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participating bands. It is the dedication of such committees that allows brass band enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the rich tapestry of musical talent in the region.
Tom Hall also deserves a hearty acknowledgment for his excellent opening of Eric Ball’s “High Peak,” setting the tone for the entire performance. His musical leadership and skill played a pivotal role in Kibworth Band’s success on the regional stage.
Congratulations are in order for Langley Band on their victory, and Kibworth Band looks forward to joining them and Jackfield Band in the National Finals.
We also wish all other bands the best of luck in the rest of the Regional Championships.
